Alliance for Community Media and TelVue Corporation to Establish Video File Sharing Network for PEG Access Centers

Developed for Efficient and Economical Content Distribution

July 8, 2008 (Washington, DC) – The Alliance for Community Media announced today that it is collaborating with TelVue Corporation to develop and beta test a central video content repository to be accessed by public, educational, and governmental (PEG) access centers nationwide via the recently established “Alliance Compliant” digital file sharing standards and solutions.  This partnership was born from the recent Alliance Compliancy initiative in which TelVue and four other equipment vendors (Leightronix, Maestrovision, Rushworks, and Tightrope) committed to producing and upgrading their servers with “Alliance Compliant” software.  The network's video programs will be provided by PEG access centers, their producers and outside producing groups, and may be downloaded by PEG access centers wishing to show them on their channels.

As part of this collaboration, TelVue will provide the technical backbone for the file sharing system, including compliant digital video servers, shared content servers and a protocol by which servers can easily exchange video files and metadata.  System users will be able to browse through a library of low-resolution content previews before downloading the full high-resolution video.

“We felt TelVue was best equipped to assist the Alliance in establishing the core architecture for this file sharing system,” said Rich Desimone, Chairperson of the Alliance Server Standards Work Group.  “Collectively we were impressed by their willingness to partner with the Alliance in this ground-breaking effort and their desire to insure that this new network addresses the needs expressed by our membership.”

“Partnering with the Alliance on this important industry-wide initiative is a significant milestone for TelVue,” said Joseph Murphy, President and CEO of TelVue.  “All of us at TelVue genuinely value the significance of this collaboration for the betterment of community television.”

A demonstration of the initial version of the user interface for shared content repository can be seen at the five Alliance standards-compliant vendors' booths during the Alliance's 2008 International Conference & Exhibition, taking place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, July 9-12.
